Koppenberg Circuit, August 30th

In case you were not aware, we had to cancel this race three times this spring because of mud on the hill.  But being racers like the rest of you, we are not quiters and vowed to make the race happen this year.   And in order to keep our sanity we had to change the rules to make the race happens.

Yes, we are CHANGING THE RULES.   From here on forward the race will not be canceled b/c of mud.  In the future, if the hill is unrideable, then the expectation is that riders will hike the bike up the grassy sides and remount on top.  So this means it is highly recommended that if it is wet outside, you bring Mountain Bike shoes and pedals.  We will investigate footbath options (seriously) on top of the hill in case of mud on the cleats before remounting.

Call it what you like, a road race with a potential hike, the longest cyclocross race with the shortest running section. Whatever, but at least we will be racing on a bike.

With the past postponements and to avoid confusion, here is a list of registered riders as of 8/17.  Let us know if we need to add you.   If you want a refund because you can not make the new date, we are relunctantly letting that happen.   But if you want to donate your race entry to help us offset the costs from the three previous cancellations, you ca do that too.

    ###

The spring classic Koppenberg Circuit is back for its seventh running in 2009.   New for 2009, we are part of the Tour of Colorado !

The race is road cycling event with dirt road sections modeled after the infamous European Roubaix race.   The 5.5 mile loop consists of a 2.5 mile dirt section that ends with a short but very steep hill.   The 200 meter long "Koppenberg" hill has a 17% slope and takes its namesake from the legendary hill in the Tour of Flanders hill in the Tour of Flanders.   The remainder of the course is rolling paved road.   There are no dirt downhill sections and the entire course is rideable on a road bike which makes for a very safe course.

But don't be deceived last year's race proved to be difficult and a true test of attrition.   The number of laps may be short, but between the climbing and dirt sections, its not as easy as it sounds.    Good Luck !
