Koppenburg Circuit
Spring 2004

Although last year's event was a super success, we have decided to postpone the '03 event to the spring of '04.   Why you may ask?  Attendance at bike races this year is dwindling fast and because of the cost of logistics involved with this race, a low attendance would adversely effect our other races, ie. the 'cross series.   So rather than put on a race and lessen the quality of our other races, we have decided to move the date.

How can you help next year's race ?   write the ACA (American Cycling Association) Committee ACA (American Cycling Association) and ask them to revise their BAR/BAT policies so a more diversified season of races takes place for 2004.   In other words, spread the Senior BAR/BAT races across the whole season instead of having the majority of races crits in June.

The Koppenburg race...

Many thought the race times were going to be too short, but in the end, the course prevailed.   Eeveryone came away with elated stories of suffering that pushed the limits, but allowed to end the race with a smile.

This course is a 5.5 mile circuit that rivals the spring Boulder Roubaix road race.   The loop features 2.5 miles of dirt road which includes a short, 200 meter, 2 track (actually 3 track) hill at an approximate 16% grade.   Yes, 16%.    Its definately clearable, but not easy.

Fear not, the entire course is rideable on a road bike, with all the dirt sections on the uphill or level portions.    No crazy "Saturn Cycling Classic" type of downhills here.

But, don't be deceived, this course will be difficult and a true test of attrition.
Are you up for the challenge ?
